Feel the Love, Vintage Meadows Style
Roman emperor Claudius II decided back in 268 AD that the Roman military could not sacrifice any more young men to new marriages. The new law he signed declared that marriage would be illegal henceforth.
As you might imagine, this didn’t go over well with all the citizens of Rome. A bishop named Valentine felt called to help the young lovestruck couples whose dreams of marriage had just been disintegrated.
Roman officials eventually found out about Valentine’s secret work, and he was arrested and sentenced to death. Valentine was executed in 269, becoming a martyr in the name of love and marriage.
Multiple versions of this story exist, but history leads us to believe that they all tell about the same person, now known as Saint Valentine. Confirming the exact happenings is difficult, but the idea remains the same - love is worth fighting for!
Over the millennia, Valentine’s Day has evolved as a day to celebrate love.
